Match Summary: Tornados vs. Hollandse - 1-1 Draw

A good start to the season for the Ladies

Today’s match saw Tornados face off against Hollandse in a closely contested game that ended in a 1-1 draw. The match had a strong start, with both teams having equal possession and the weather being ideal despite the 4:30 PM timing. Tornados had a full roster with substitutes available, and Maxine was present to cheer the team on.

Hollandse took the lead in the first half with an infield goal, while Tornados struggled with some crucial ball losses in the center, particularly due to Hollandse's intercepting tactics. Despite this, Tornados' defensive diamond was well-organized, though there’s room for improvement in stepping up and marking when necessary.

Sara was pivotal in creating play, delivering many great passes to the wide midfield. The ball out of defense was structured, but short passes to advance the play are encouraged. One standout moment came when Megan played the ball to Shireen, who sprinted down the pitch and sent a cross into the 7-yard zone. Amirah and Naru (myself) were in position, and after Naru’s shot was saved, she took a reverse shot on the rebound to equalize the score to 1-1.

Liz did well in distributing the ball to the sides, and the team was focusing on improving cohesiveness in advancing the play and involving the forwards more effectively. Both teams continued to press and counter-attack, resulting in an exciting game with plenty of runs.

In the final quarter, Hollandse earned several penalty corners, but Tornados' defensive penalty corners were outstanding, managing to defend all four attempts. Claire did an excellent job managing her players, particularly those who were carded for fouls or aggressive behavior. Min made many key saves to keep the game level. Sophie made great tackles being the last man. Especially during quick turnovers.

The match ended in a fair 1-1 draw, with both teams putting in strong efforts. The team also noted that Karli embodies the loving captain role, while Liz is the strict, no-nonsense “mum” of the squad.

MOM: Sophie and Sara
TIT: Naru (I GOT A GREEN CARD ? for sweeping the ball away after the whistle)
