They came in bright sunny yellow, a really smiley, friendly colour. 2 points separated us in the league table. The coach had expectations of a big win.

We strung sequences (more than 3!!) of give and go passes, drop passes, through passes, multiple multi-way transfers (so much space in our half)... following our coach's instructions to take our time, let the ball do the the work. The bloody ball didn't do the bloody work. The Vanquishers sat deep in their half most of the game, narrowing the pitch, smothering every dribble that came their way. They worked pretty hard to thwart our incessant!!! attempts at goal, even the well-crafted and brilliantly executed 4, 5? short corners. It was hard hard work for the mid-fielders and forwards, pounding on this obstacle (obstinate!) sea of yellow until a breakthrough in the 2nd quarter, when Sabrina lobbed the ball to Wani who took it on the volley and slotted it in the top right corner ?. GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!!

We know goal-scoring can be hard! Like when the penalty shot taker gently presents the ball directly into the keeper's glove. And that penalty, how was it awarded? Our afore-mentioned goal scorer got tripped and face-planted in the D. BOOOM!

There was a heart-in-mouth 3 seconds when our defender, while putting in a strong meaningful tackle bounced the ball right into the D for their nippy forward, now one-on-one with our goalie, who had anticipated that f*"':k-up and swiftly stepped up and swatted the ball away, SAVING (THANK YOU, XIN!!!) the team from another frustrating draw.
